| Applications of Cerium Oxide |
| Cerium Oxide, popularly known as ceria, Cerium, CerOxi,Oxyde de Cerium,oxido De Cerio. Cerium Oxide finds applications in glass, ceramics and catalyst manufacturing. In glass, Cerium oxide is considered the most effective glass polishing agent for precision optical polishing. Cerium oxide decolorize glass by keeping iron in its ferrous state. Cerium-doped glass blocks out ultra violet light hence utilized in medical glassware and aerospace windows. Cerium oxide prevent polymers from darkening in sunlight and to suppress discoloration of television glass. Ceria is applied to optical components to improve performance. High purity Ceria powders are also used in phosphors and dopant to crystal. Cerium oxide in combination with zirconium oxide (Ce-ZrO2) finds application as wear resistant grinding & dispersion media. Ceria stabilized zirconium oxide finds applications in fuel cell materials (SOFC),body armours. catalytic converter, honey comb, precision ceramic parts, abrasive wheels, oxygen sensors, cutting tools etc applications. Cerium oxide stabilized zirconium oxide is treated as ceramic steel. |
